Sony's Xperia smartphone has an incredible camera. But telling people that in an ad is one thing β proving it is another. How do you demonstrate camera quality in a way that feels authentic, not manufactured?
What if we put the camera in the hands of real filmmakers and let them prove it?
We gave aspiring filmmakers from around the world an Xperia smartphone and a simple brief: capture the idea of a 'journey.' From all the footage, we created a crowd-sourced documentary film, guided by BAFTA and Emmy-winning cinematographer Mateo Willis (Blue Planet II, Planet Earth) with a bespoke soundtrack by producer/DJ Poldoore. We supported the film with social teasers and 4 tutorial films presented by Mateo, shot in Iceland. Over 72,000 people visited the product website, and the campaign reached over 11 million people.
